Waikiki Beach

Waikiki Beach, located on the southern shore of Honolulu, Oahu, is a must-see destination, renowned for its sandy beaches, clear waters and stunning Hawaiian sunsets. There's something for everyone here, including rich cultural experiences, fine-dining, great shopping and world-class surfing - and that's just for starters. Here’s a list of the top ten things to do at Waikiki Beach that will make you want to revisit again and again.

1. Surfing

Ask any surfer about Waikiki and you're sure to get a rave response. Known as the Mecca of modern surfing, Waikiki Beach has gentler waves, more appropriate for beginners. Rent your surfboard right on the beach and sign up for lessons at a local surf school. More experienced surfers enjoy the long, rolling breaks, perfect for catching some waves.

2. Snorkeling

A short drive from Waikiki Beach is Hanauma Bay. This is one of the most famous snorkeling locations in the world. It is a nature preserve filled with breathtaking coral reefs of all colors and a huge variety of marine life. You'll see tropical fish and sea turtles during your visit. Hanauma Bay is a great way to explore the underwater world of Hawaii.

3. Hiking

For the more active among you, hiking Diamond Head Crater is a must. This majestic volcanic creation overlooks Waikiki Beach and offers never-to-be-forgotten views of the ocean and the skyline. The hike is fairly challenging but suitable for most fitness levels. However, it's best to start early in the morning to avoid the mid-day heat.

4. Honolulu Zoo

Honolulu Zoo is perhaps the best family activity in Hawaii. It is 42-acres in size and is home to hundreds of different animals, including elephants, giraffes, and monkeys. It's a great place to spend a day with your children and it has a large playground and picnic area. For a family-friendly adventure in Waikiki, nothing beats this.

5. Waikiki Aquarium

Located next to Honolulu Zoo, the Waikiki Aquarium is a spectacular insight into Hawaii's abundant marine life. On display are a wide variety of native species. You will also get to see the Hawaiian monk seal on a visit here. There are fun interactive displays and some educational demonstrations which families with children love. This is yet another top family-friendly activity in Waikiki.

6. Catamaran Cruise

A sunset catamaran cruise in Waikiki Beach is highly recommended, enabling you to watch the glorious Hawaiian sunsets from the water. Many cruises offer cocktails, music, and some also do snorkeling stops. This is, of course, a perfect activity for a romantic anniversary.

7. Kuhio Beach Park

Kuhio Beach Park is located in the heart of Waikiki and is ideal for a day of recreation and relaxation on the sand. This beach is known for its calm waters, making it ideal for swimming. There is often live entertainment here in the evening time, such as hula shows on the beach. Take the children here for some family time and be sure to check out the Mukua and Kila Statue while you are there.

9. U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii

This activity offers an interesting look into the military history of Hawaii. It is housed inside Battery Randolph, a former coastal artillery battery. It was transformed into a museum in 1976 and displays an impressive collection of artifacts, memorabilia and photos. There is no admission charge and it is a great educational experience for all of the family.

10. Luau

Although it's last on our list, it should be first on yours. You can't take a trip to Hawaii and not attend a Hawaiian Luau. This is a traditional Hawaiian party that includes entertainment and a range of local dishes. The lively feast is a fun-filled event that you should not miss when you visit Waikiki.

CONCLUSION

Waikiki Beach is a destination that has something for everyone in the family. There is so much to experience, but what tourists find most memorable is the vibrant culture, combined with the friendly local charm of the people. There is nowhere else on earth quite like Waikiki Beach. We're sure you'll enjoy your time there.
